Summary
First part:
The story starts of with four different individuals intending to commit suicide on New Year’s eve on Topper’s Tower. Jess( 18 year old),Martin ( a middle aged, used to popular TV host), Maureen( a 51 year old, mother of a disabled son) and J.J (a musician) arrive to commit suicide in solitude however are quite surprised to meet each other. They form a group and try to help Jess out with her issues with Chas. After they arrive at the party they meet Chas who accuses Jess of being a psycho which leads them to leave the party soon after and they arrive at Martin apartment. At Martin’s apartment they meet a clearly distressed Penny who accuses Martin of cheating on her as he left there dinner party with any explanation. The four individuals stay at Martin’s apartment for the rest of the night. Second Part:
The next morning the newspaper claim that Jess and Martin slept together after Chas gives them false information. Jess’s father accuses Jess as he fears that his reputation is going to tainted as he is the Junior Secretary of Education. Jess however does not deny the accusation as she fears her father would be even more angry finding out the actual reason she knew Martin. Later on, the newspaper started claiming that Martin and Jess had a suicidal pact thereby leading Jess’s father to bribe Martin into protecting his daughter and clear the accusations.
The story then shifts to J.J perspective as a reporter arrives at his apartment asking about the suicidal pact and if the reporter could get an interview however J.J refuses to discuss the topic. As the story proceeds it seen that Jess asks the Maureen and rest of the members to meet at a coffee shop to discuss the the idea of actually giving the interview and making some money out of it by admitting that they saw an angel that looked like Matt Damon. However, the rest of the group disagrees but as Jess gets home she receives a phone call where she tells the reporter that they saw an angel. Even though the group members get mad at Jess they go along with the idea. Just as they were making some cash Martin gets fired because the channel producers think that Martin has gone insane. He however promises an interview with J.J,Maureen and Jess to save his job but the interview ends in a disaster. Later on, in another T.V show Jess confesses that there was no angel.
The four then decide to go a vacation to Tenerife. They meet new people but at the same time some issues occur leading Jess to get arrested and later bailed out. In the end the vacation ends in a disaster where the four agree to go to Topper's Tower once again on Valentine's Day. As they arrive at the Tower they witness a young man jump off the roof changing their perspective about suicide.
Third Part
The suicide they witnessed becomes a big impact in their life leading them to postpone their suicide date yet again until March 31st. In the mean time Jess calls all the family members and friends to rekindle lost relationships. The meeting however ends in slightly better note where Jess parents come to realization that Jess is not the one to blame, Maureen finds a new job and couple new friends, J.J makes amends with his former band mate and girl friend and also by finding his true friends. In the end they leave and meet up again on Topper's Tower only to realize that their lives are not so horrible as it seems.
